Losing weight is SIMPLE. Its simpler than raising a child. Its simpler than clearing IIT exams. Its much simpler than earning a living! What I am trying to say is that at the end of the day it is all a psychological battle. In this post I want to share with you some simple psychological hacks to keep you motivated and take you that extra mile.
HACK #1 – STOP CONSIDERING LOSING WEIGHT THE HARDEST THING YOU’VE EVER HAD TO DO
“Most people start their weight loss journey feeling this will be the hardest thing to do. When they lose weight, they feel successful. But eventually they go right back to their old habits.” – UCI Health. The motive should not be short term accomplishments but long term fitness.
HACK #2 – LOSING WEIGHT SHOULD MEAN A LIFESTYLE CHANGE NOT JUST GIVING UP THINGS TEMPORARILY
The foremost exercise to maintain weight is to make amends to those lifelong ingrained habits which have led you to where you are. Giving up fried food for a month is not the answer. Gradually learning to prefer a good health and body over fried food should be the goal.
HACK #3 – THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS
Crash dieting, starving yourself, deliberately missing meals is only going to ruin your health. And you know that! Even more important than losing weight is having a disease free, healthy body with strong immunity. You will automatically start losing weight when you start working towards GOOD HEALTH.
HACK #4 – BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOU ARE READING
When you are taking diet and nutrition advice from the internet, be watchful of the source of the advice. Always, choose trusted and medical websites such as Webmd, Nhs, Harvard etc. who are publishing information after tonnes of research and from the experience of qualified doctors.
HACK #5 – COOK YOURSELF
We all know what is good for us and what is not. In fact, even the kindergarten children are taught that in their schools. So, when I set up my own menu and cook myself it really motivates me to have an extremely wholesome meal consisting of all important food groups, especially green vegetables and protein.
HACK #6 – EXCERCISE IS CRUCIAL BUT WHAT KIND OF EXERCISE IS COMPLETELY YOUR PREROGATIVE
After food, the next important battle is learning to exercise regularly. In the long run, if you choose a form of exercise that you enjoy doing as well, you will find your journey much more easier. For e.g.. how about an hour of dance, or a sport you always loved to play in your childhood such as badminton, maybe cycling or simply an hour of walk with your friend chatting with whom time simply flies. Give this point some good thought and find that winning form of workout for yourself.
HACK #7 – BE MINDFUL OF WHAT YOUR NEXT GENERATION IS EATING
If you are obese, it is quite likely that so will be your kids. Because every mother and father tend to unknowingly pass on their eating habits to their kids. It is your foremost responsibility to correct their habits right now and not let them fall into the same trap as well. And for that you have to lead them by example.
Lastly, don’t get fooled by the big advertisement banners that promise lightning fast weight loss routines just to get your money or the internet that offers super quick but totally worthless weightless solutions. It is YOU AND ONLY YOU who can help himself/herself. Let this goal be a fun journey towards becoming a more fitter, wiser and healthier being and not just a gimmick that soon succumbs to a rebound.
