February 20, 2017
When life turns itself into a real roller coaster ride, just a days break can revive your worn out soul like a true miracle. This is exactly what we experienced as me and my husband whisked off to The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa, New Chandigarh this Valentines day.
Built on the lines of an Indian palace with acutely dressed staff in traditional Indian attire, this beautifully composed resort immediately renders a feel of royalty to oneself. From the moment you step in till the time of departure, the feeling of being felt welcomed does not leave your side.
(My sincere thanks to the superbly trained staff at the Oberoi Sukhvilas for taking such good care of us.)
The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa, Siswan Forest Range is a resort in New Chandigarh, surrounded by over 8,000 acres of protected natural forest at the foothills of the outer Himalayas. It is located thirty minutes from Chandigarh city centre and is a 2 hour drive from Ludhiana city.
Being located next to a forest, the serenity and the calmness of the woodland automatically travels into you uplifting both your mood and your spirit. The winding pathways, the aesthetically manicured gardens and the tranquil water features bathing in ample of sunlight, rinse your body and mind of all the stress you carried along. The beautiful dipping sunsets visible from everywhere around the property, will leave you feeling as if you have plopped down into something magical. Look out for the occasional exhilarating sightings of forest animals such as peacocks, chinkaras (Deer) et al, a rare sight for city dwellers.
The Royal tent, are abode for the night, was a beautifully set up accommodation with design elements inspired by Rajput and Mughal architecture but with all modern conveniences. A single iPad controlled everything from lights to the the curtains to the television channels. If you have a Netflix account, you may browse through your favourite movies or choose from the list of free movies preloaded for you by the resort. Censor operated washrooms, royal bathtub, spacious wardrobes, openly designed architecture, butler on call, everything seemed to have been designed precisely keeping in mind the smallest of the needs of its guests.
Apart from the leisurely walks, you may choose to indulge yourself with a bath in the infinity pool (temperature controlled so weather does not matter) or opt for a forest trek by foot or on bicycles as the resort naturalist enthrals you with the facts of the wild. If you are travelling with kids, the resort also hosts a well kept children’s area to keep the little ones engaged.
(The Spa block is still under construction and will be fully operational from April. However, a temporary spa arrangement is available for guests who wish to use this service.)
